Horse Racing Tips FAQ

Everything punters and prospective members ask us most. If your question isn't here, email hello@thegallop.uk.

How many horse racing tips does The Gallop publish each day?

One NAP per day on every UK and Ireland race day, posted by 8am UK. On days when our model finds no qualifier, we publish nothing — selective by design. Some plans receive additional value tips and an optional under-2/1 Banker pick when one qualifies.

Are The Gallop tips free?

The free Banker pick (when one qualifies) and one NAP teaser are visible on the homepage daily. Full tips with analysis, EW/Win staking flags and members-only selections are paywalled. Plans start at £9/week with full transparency on results.

How does The Gallop choose its tips?

A four-pillar scoring model: Form Trajectory, Edge Signals (class drops, first-time headgear, wind ops, trainer intent), Race Fit (going, distance, course, draw), and Smart Money Proxy (value profile, contrarian angles, big-field dynamics). Every tip is published with full reasoning.

What is BOG and how does The Gallop apply it?

BOG (Best Odds Guaranteed) means you get paid at the better of the advised price or the actual industry SP. We settle every winning tip at max(advised, actual SP), so members are never short-changed by a price that drifts shorter between the morning post and the off.

When are tips marked as Each-Way (EW)?

Tips at 5/1 (decimal 6.0) or bigger in fields of 8 or more runners are flagged as EW. Place fractions: 1/5 odds for non-handicaps and most handicaps, 1/4 odds for handicaps with 12+ runners, 1/4 odds places 1–4 for handicaps with 16+ runners. Everything else is win-only.

How do you publish results?

Every tip is settled the same evening at 21:30 UTC against Sporting Life results, with BOG and EW maths applied. Wins, places and losses are all published transparently at /results.html. Strike rate, points P&L, lifetime stats — all visible to anyone, no login required.

What is a Banker tip?

A Banker is our high-confidence under-2/1 selection on days a qualifier exists. It’s a separate product from the daily NAP — same scoring engine, different filter. Bankers are win-only by convention and are intentionally rare; we expect roughly 75–80% of days to have one.

Do you tip Irish racing?

Yes. Our model covers UK and Ireland. We have explicit data sets for major Irish trainers (Mullins, Elliott, de Bromhead, Aidan O’Brien, Joseph O’Brien etc.) and Irish jockeys (Townend, Kennedy, Blackmore, Walsh and others). Irish runners score equivalently to British runners.

What is a points staking system?

You stake a fixed number of points per tip — typically 1 point. Each point equals a fixed amount you choose (£5, £10, £20). This removes emotional bet-sizing and lets you measure true edge across many bets. We recommend a 50–100 point starting bank. Full guide at /staking.html.

How long has The Gallop been running?

The current scoring engine was developed and backtested through 2023–2024 against historical Betfair SP data. The live publication started in 2026. We publish every result transparently — no cherrypicking, no hidden losses.

Can I cancel my subscription?

Yes, any time, no minimum term, no cancellation fee. Manage your subscription via the Stripe billing portal — link in the footer of every page and in your welcome email.

How do I follow tips on my phone?

The site is mobile-first; the homepage shows today’s selections at the top. Members get the daily email. We’re developing WhatsApp alerts for higher-tier members.

What does "selective by design" mean?

On days where the model can’t find a tip that meets our criteria — which happens fairly often, particularly on weak Monday/Tuesday cards — we publish nothing. We’d rather sit out than force a marginal pick. Discipline is part of the edge.

Is The Gallop a registered tipster?

We’re an information service operating in the UK to UK and Irish customers. We’re not regulated by the Gambling Commission as we don’t take bets — we publish opinion and analysis. We take responsible-gambling seriously: every page links to BeGambleAware and GAMSTOP.

How do confidence ratings work?

Every tip carries a 1–5 pip rating: 5 = maximum conviction (multiple stacking signals); 4 = strong; 3 = solid each-way; 1–2 = speculative. Some members only follow 4–5 pip picks to reduce variance. Confidence is computed from the underlying scoring pillars, not subjectively.
