Goodwood Course Profile

Draw Bias

High draws (far side) have historically been favoured in big-field sprints over 6f, particularly the Stewards’ Cup. Over longer trips on the round course the draw matters less but inside positions on the home turn help.

Going & Ground

Good to firm is typical at the July festival. The Sussex Downs drains well but soft ground can occur after sustained rain. Course experience is a real factor on this undulating, quirky layout.

Trainer & Jockey Notes

Andrew Balding, William Haggas and the big yards target the Glorious meeting heavily. Jockeys who have ridden the track regularly have a meaningful edge given the cambers and gradients.

Course Quirks

One of the most unusual courses in Britain — the downhill run into the straight, the camber, the undulating finish. Unexposed horses can run below their true level here on debut. Course form is consistently undervalued by the market.
