Dutching calculator
Back two or more horses in the same race and win the same amount whichever of them wins. Enter your total stake and each horse's odds; the calculator splits the stake for you.
How dutching works
Each horse's stake is in proportion to its implied chance, so a shorter-priced horse gets more of the money. Whichever of your horses wins, the stake on it multiplied by its odds comes to the same return.
Worked example
£100 dutched across horses at 3/1, 4/1 and 6/1 puts £42.17 on the 3/1 shot, £33.73 on the 4/1 and £24.10 on the 6/1. If any of them wins, the return is £168.67, a profit of £68.67. Their combined chance is 59.3%, comfortably under 100%, which is why it can make a profit.
How we use this at The Gallop
Every tip we've given since October 2025 is on our results page, settled with exactly these sums: each-way bets at standard place terms, Rule 4 where it applied, and the bigger of the advised price and the starting price, as bookmakers offering best odds guaranteed would pay. You can check any bet by putting it through the calculator.
Questions
What is dutching?
Dutching means backing more than one horse in the same race, with the stakes split so you get the same return whichever of them wins.
When does dutching make a profit?
Only when the selections' combined implied chance is under 100%. If it's over 100% you're guaranteed to lose even when one of them wins, so the calculator shows a loss.
Can I dutch each-way?
This calculator splits win stakes only. Each-way dutching gives a different return depending on which horse wins and which place, so the returns can't all be equal.
