What is a Heinz?

A Heinz is 57 bets on six selections in different races: 15 doubles, 20 trebles, 15 fourfolds, six fivefolds and a sixfold accumulator. It's named after Heinz's 57 varieties. There are no singles, so you need at least two winners for a return.

A £1 Heinz costs £57. Each way it's 114 bets and costs £114: 57 win bets and 57 place bets, with the place bets paid at the place fraction of the odds.

Heinz returns by number of winners

A £1 win Heinz on selections at 2/1, 3/1, 4/1, 5/1, 6/1, 7/1, with the shortest-priced horses winning first.

Questions

How many bets is a Heinz?

57: 15 doubles, 20 trebles, 15 fourfolds, 6 fivefolds and a sixfold on six selections. A £1 Heinz costs £57 win, or £114 each way.

How many winners do I need for a return on a Heinz?

Two. The smallest bets in a Heinz are doubles, so a single winner returns nothing.

How many winners do I need for a profit?

It depends on the prices. With the odds in the table on this page (2/1, 3/1, 4/1, 5/1, 6/1, 7/1, with the shortest-priced winning first), a £1 win Heinz first shows a profit with three winners. At bigger prices you can need fewer.

What's the difference between a Heinz and a Lucky 63?

A Lucky 63 is a Heinz with the six singles added: 63 bets instead of 57, and one winner gives a return.

How are non-runners settled?

A non-runner's leg counts at odds of 1.0, so your stake carries on to the other selections: a treble with a non-runner becomes a double, and so on. Choose Non-runner as the result for that selection to see the effect.
