What is a Trixie?
A Trixie is four bets on three selections in different races: three doubles and a treble. There are no singles, so you need at least two winners for a return.
A £1 Trixie costs £4. Each way it's 8 bets and costs £8: 4 win bets and 4 place bets, with the place bets paid at the place fraction of the odds.
Trixie returns by number of winners
A £1 win Trixie on selections at 2/1, 3/1, 4/1, with the shortest-priced horses winning first.
| Winners | Bets that pay | Returns | Profit |
|---|---|---|---|
| 0 | 0 | £0.00 | −£4.00 |
| 1 | 0 | £0.00 | −£4.00 |
| 2 | 1 | £12.00 | £8.00 |
| 3 | 4 | £107.00 | £103.00 |
Each way, if all three only place at 1/5 odds, a £1 each-way Trixie (£8 in total) returns £11.67, a profit of £3.67.

Questions
How many bets is a Trixie?
4: 3 doubles and a treble on three selections. A £1 Trixie costs £4 win, or £8 each way.
How many winners do I need for a return on a Trixie?
Two. The smallest bets in a Trixie are doubles, so a single winner returns nothing.
How many winners do I need for a profit?
It depends on the prices. With the odds in the table on this page (2/1, 3/1, 4/1, with the shortest-priced winning first), a £1 win Trixie first shows a profit with two winners.
What's the difference between a Trixie and a Patent?
A Patent is a Trixie with the three singles added: seven bets instead of four. The singles mean one winner gives a return, but the bet costs nearly twice as much.
How are non-runners settled?
A non-runner's leg counts at odds of 1.0, so your stake carries on to the other selections: a treble with a non-runner becomes a double, and so on. Choose Non-runner as the result for that selection to see the effect.
