Yankee returns by number of winners

A £1 win Yankee on selections at 2/1, 3/1, 4/1, 5/1, with the shortest-priced horses winning first.

How we use this at The Gallop

Every tip we've given since October 2025 is on our results page, settled with exactly these sums: each-way bets at standard place terms, Rule 4 where it applied, and the bigger of the advised price and the starting price, as bookmakers offering best odds guaranteed would pay. You can check any bet by putting it through the calculator.

Questions

How many bets is a Yankee?

11: 6 doubles, 4 trebles and a fourfold on four selections. A £1 Yankee costs £11 win, or £22 each way.

How many winners do I need for a return on a Yankee?

Two. The smallest bets in a Yankee are doubles, so a single winner returns nothing.

How many winners do I need for a profit?

It depends on the prices. With the odds in the table on this page (2/1, 3/1, 4/1, 5/1, with the shortest-priced winning first), a £1 win Yankee first shows a profit with two winners.

What's the difference between a Yankee and a Lucky 15?

A Lucky 15 is a Yankee with the four singles added: 15 bets instead of 11. The singles mean one winner gives a return, and many bookmakers offer bonuses on a Lucky 15 that they don't on a Yankee.

How are non-runners settled?

A non-runner's leg counts at odds of 1.0, so your stake carries on to the other selections: a treble with a non-runner becomes a double, and so on. Choose Non-runner as the result for that selection to see the effect.
