What is a Lucky 15?

A Lucky 15 is 15 bets on four selections in different races: four singles, six doubles, four trebles and a fourfold accumulator. Because the singles are included, one winner is enough for a return, which is why it's one of the most popular bets in British racing.

A £1 Lucky 15 costs £15. Each way it's 30 bets and costs £30: 15 win bets and 15 place bets, with the place bets paid at the place fraction of the odds.

Lucky 15 returns by number of winners

A £1 win Lucky 15 on selections at 2/1, 3/1, 4/1, 5/1, with the shortest-priced horses winning first.

23£19.00£4.00
37£119.00£104.00
415£839.00£824.00

Each way, if all four only place at 1/5 odds, a £1 each-way Lucky 15 (£30 in total) returns £51.42 from the place part, a profit of £21.42.

You can check any bet by putting it through the calculator.

Questions

How many bets is a Lucky 15?

15: 4 singles, 6 doubles, 4 trebles and a fourfold on four selections. A £1 Lucky 15 costs £15 win, or £30 each way.

How many winners do I need for a return on a Lucky 15?

One. The singles mean any winner gives a return, though one winner on its own usually isn't enough for a profit.

How many winners do I need for a profit?

It depends on the prices. With the odds in the table on this page (2/1, 3/1, 4/1, 5/1, with the shortest-priced winning first), a £1 win Lucky 15 first shows a profit with two winners. At bigger prices you can need fewer.

Does the calculator include Lucky 15 bonuses?

No. Many bookmakers pay double or treble the odds when only one selection wins, or a bonus when all four win, but the offers differ between bookmakers, so the calculator shows the standard returns before any bonus. Add the bonus your bookmaker offers on top.

How are non-runners settled?

A non-runner's leg counts at odds of 1.0, so your stake carries on to the other selections: a treble with a non-runner becomes a double, and so on. Choose Non-runner as the result for that selection to see the effect.
